QUESTION: How can I decide which Reamer to purchase or determine which replacement parts I need for my existing Reamer?
Do you need to maintain your existing Reamer or replace a part, but you aren’t sure what model you have? Or are you considering purchasing a Reamer and need help determining the right one for your application? Here are some factors to consider:
Tregaskiss currently offers two types of reamers — the TOUGH GARD™ Spatter Cleaner and the TOUGH GUN™ Reamer. However, there is a lineage associated with our TOUGH GUN Reamer that might create some confusion when determining which replacement
parts are needed.
Our first TOUGH GUN Reamer (TR Series) is typically referred to as the “Shorty”. It has the same footprint and outside dimensions as any of the first-generation TOUGH GUN Reamers. We also have the first generation TT Series or “Tallboy” version of the TOUGH GUN Reamer. It has the same physical features as the TR Series, including externally mounted valves, rounded rear cover and clamp housing, but it is approximately 6 inches taller.
Tregaskiss also has its next-generation TOUGH GUN Reamer (TT Series), which is the unit that customers will receive when placing an order today. This unit incorporates the same mounting hole pattern in the baseplate as previous models, but it also has slotted holes to allow for easier installation and removal. In addition, the TT Series Reamer has internally mounted valves and a square, hinged rear cover, along with clamp housing with an integrated carrying handle to allow for easier transportation between the crib and welding cell.
Typically, the next generation TOUGH GUN Reamer (TT Series) is the best choice for heavier duty applications.
Tregaskiss has also created the TOUGH GARD Spatter Cleaner for standard duty applications. This model is a lower-cost unit designed for use in low-spatter applications. It relies on air-logic for its movements, as opposed to the circuit board used in all versions of the TT and TR Series Reamers.
To help identify the Reamers and determine replacement parts when they are necessary, each product has a serial number riveted to the frame. Specifically, the TOUGH GUN Reamers have a serial number with a TT or TR prefix located on a small aluminum plate, which Tregaskiss has attached to the side of the Reamer near the base plate. The TOUGH GARD Spatter Cleaners also have a serial number stamped onto the bottom of the baseplate.
When orderin
g replacement parts, it is very helpful to have access to the serial number on your Reamer, since Tregaskiss maintains files for every unit we’ve ever built. Knowing the serial number helps us guarantee you will receive the correct parts.
When ordering a new Reamer, there a few things to keep in mind:
1. Nozzle part number (or O.D. and I.D.): The nozzle O.D. and I.D. are incorporated into the Reamer part number. For example, if you are using a 401-6-62 HD slip-on nozzle, you will require the TT-1060-01 unit. In this number, 1060 = Nozzle O.D. – 1.060 inch and 01 = RCT-01 cutter for a 5/8 inch nozzle bore.
2. Accessories (wire cutter, sprayer, FRL, stand, etc.): Tregaskiss has a variety of accessories for the TOUGH GUN Reamer or TOUGH GARD Spatter Cleaner. Most options can be configured into the part number so you receive a complete unit with one part number.
3. Application: Before ordering your Reamer, consider whether your application has high or low spatter accumulation. Knowing the application will help you decide whether you will require the TOUGH GUN Reamer (high spatter) or the TOUGH GARD Spatter Cleaner (low spatter).
