BIG EATS: Sweet and Savory BBQ Beef Ribs
Put some zest into your summer and be sure to invite plenty of friends to share in the ‘yum!’
Ingredients:
3 to 4 pounds beef back ribs (about 8 ribs)
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup honey
1 4-ounce can green chilies, diced
1 large onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dry mustard
Directions:
Trim excess fat from beef ribs. Preheat your gas grill (or ready your charcoal one) and prepare it for indirect grilling by placing a drip pan under the grate.
Combine salt, pepper and cayenne and rub over the ribs. Place ribs on grill over drip pan and close the lid. Cook for about 3- to 3-1/2 hours over a medium-low, indirect heat (ideally, under 265 degrees Fahrenheit).
To prepare sauce, combine onion, honey, ketchup, chili peppers, garlic and mustard in a saucepan. Heat over a low temperature, stirring until even and warm.
When the ribs are nearly finished brush the sauce on them until you get a thick coating…then enjoy!

Did you know that our FUSION Blender isn’t the only thing that mixes things up? The first electric blender—known as a liquidizer in Britain—was developed and patented in 1922 by inventor Stephen J. Poplawski. The owner of The Stevens Electric Company, Poplawski developed this now household appliance to sell to drugstore soda fountains to make malts, shakes and other icy treats!
Since then other companies, like Oster, Hamilton Beach and Waring have built on the technology—allowing us to continue enjoying tasty frozen treats, smoothies and more.
And some folks are even taking things a bit further! Check this out…BUT DON'T TRY IT AT HOME!

Origin of the phrase "Break The Ice"
Today, the phrase ‘break the ice’ has become commonplace in social settings where we are trying to get to know new friends and get over any awkward formalities. ‘Ice breaking’ activities are even prevalent in professional environments to get team members more familiar with one another. That’s not the original meaning though.
During the late 16th century, the phrase literally referred to breaking the ice in a waterway in order to allow large ships to pass to various ports to trade goods. In areas especially prone to freezing, small ships called ‘icebreakers’ would travel in front of these larger vessels to make a path. Hence, boatmen knew that they had to break through the ice to reach those with whom they needed to conduct business!
